The Shop is open for business

Since November we’ve had a number of requests to reopen the shop on a regular basis – and a number of volunteers to take turns behind the counter.

After speaking to members to find out what they’d like to buy from the shop we have placed an order for seeds and gardening gear and our Chair Linda reopened the shop on Sunday 17th February.

Planned shop hours are 10-12 on a Saturday and 12 – 2 on a Sunday.  If you need anything outside that time just ask a committee member and they will see if they can help.

There is a wide range of items available for sale, including:

  • ground cover fabric and pegs
  • fleece
  • netting
  • labels
  • string/ties
  • slug pellets (organic and safe for wildlife)
  • gardening gloves
  • bamboo canes
  • seed trays
  • watering cans

We’re also ordering seeds including:

  • beetroot
  • corn
  • pumpkin and squash
  • cucumber
  • sweetcorn
  • spinach
  • carrots
  • swede
  • courgettes
  • tomatoes
  • onion sets
  • garlic
  • potatoes
  • cabbage, sprouts,
  • strawberry plants

There will also be plants for sale later in the season.

We still have a few gaps in the shop rota – if you can spare some time on either a Saturday or Sunday once every 6 weeks please get in touch.

Visit our Annual Open Day – Sunday 14 May 2017

Annual Open Day features and stalls

Yes, it’s that time of year again – the Dorset Road Allotment’s Annual Open Day.  Regular visitors will be pleased to know that as usual we will have our wonderful homemade cakes available (with a cup of tea), there will be a barbeque and plenty of plants for sale as well as other food and craft stalls.  There will be bee demonstrations and dog agility displays.

Children will be able to play on the bouncy castle and there will be a range of other stalls and activities to keep them entertained including the free Treasure Hunt.

New for 2017

We are also pleased to welcome for the first time the Churchfield Primary School Choir and the 19th Bromley Scouts who will be challenging people to ‘beat the goalie’.  And you will be able to see our new Secret Garden.

We hope to see you – whether you are a regular or this will be your first visit.

Water shortage??

After a glorious Bank Holiday weekend when everyone went planting crazy so begins the rain. Whilst it cuts down on the watering it would be nice to have a few more days when we can get the plants in the ground please! If anyone needs any more organic compost, peat or manure don’t forget to pop in the shop. This year we are stocking grow bags so please see in the shop for details. We also have surplus stock of plants left over from the Open Day, lovingly grown from seed by Roz so please pop into the poly tunnel and pay in the shop for any that take your fancy. Dave’s Pine Berries were a big hit at the open day – they are a white strawberry that taste of pineapple – he has a few left so please ask Dave (the Bodger) or in the shop. Never too late (not this year anyway) to sow or plant out – hopeful the frost has gone but you never know.
