Autumn Community Spruce – Sunday 13th October

The summer is officially over and it’s time to start tidying up and planning for next year.

On Sunday 13 October between 11-3pm there will be a Community Spruce day to help tidy the site and get ready for bonfire night.  You can come for all or part of the session.  There will be a range of jobs to do.   Lunch will be provided along with plenty of tea and cake.

We will also be providing advice on composting and what can be grown in the colder months.

Hope to see you there.  If you can’t help out on the day but are available on other days don’t forget to check out the board next to the Clubhouse for site jobs or speak to a committee member.

Thank you to all our volunteers!

Following a suggestion at the AGM, we now have a whiteboard outside the Clubhouse listing the jobs around the site that need doing.

We have had a fantastic response from Members and their friends who have been doing a wide range of tasks, including:

  • tidying the compost area
  • mowing the grass
  • tidying and weeding the secret garden.
  • strimming and covering plots ready for new tenants
  • fixing leaky pipes
  • serving food at events
  • showing visitors around the site
  • sowing wildflower plants.

The committee would like to say a HUGE thank you to everybody who has helped  maintain our allotment site.  As well as being somewhere for us to grow fruit and vegetables it is a fantastic community garden.

If you haven’t had a chance to help out yet, there are always a wide range of jobs available – from helping to open the shop on a rota, cutting grass through to admin tasks – just speak to a committee member or put your name down on the board.

Community Spruce – Spring Clean

On Sunday 14 March our members cleaned, tidied and decorated the communal facilities as part of our Community Spruce programme.

The external walls of the toilets were painted (the doors still need to be finished).

The internal walls and ceilings the both toilets were scraped, primed and painted (the floors still need to be painted).

The Clubhouse kitchen cupboards were emptied and the contents sorted.   A professional cleaning company will be along shortly to give the Clubhouse a deep clean ready for upcoming events including our AGM and Open Day.

The communal poly tunnel and greenhouse were cleared and tidied.  Unfortunately a lot of potted plants had to be disposed of because they were infested with vine weevil.

A skip was available for site and members’ use as some plotholders had inherited a lot of rubbish and rubble when taking on their plots.

There was also a litter pick of the site and surroundings.

Thank you to everybody who helped out on the day and to those who have been helping with the site improvements at other times.
